Paula has been a student of Middle Eastern dance for 19 years.  She takes her involvement in this dance very seriously and continues to further her training and perfect her skill in this ancient art form.  She is a former model and actress and after playing the role of Gypsy Rose Lee in the Little Theater's 1978 production of "Gypsy", she borrowed her current stage name.  She does not participate in what is known as "belly-grams" or cheap, silly appearances designed to embarrass or titillate male guests at bachelor parties.  Instead her performances are limited to concert and/or theatrical presentations pertaining to ethnic or international themes for the purpose of entertainment.

She has appeared twice with the Winston-Salem Symphony orchestra at their "Sunday at the Pops" concert and at the "Music at Sunset" where she performed to Bacchanal from Samson and Delilah. Her studies have taken her to San Francisco, Atlanta, New York, Seattle and finally to Egypt and Turkey, where she has received training from internationally acclaimed master teachers such as Delilah, Suhaila Salimpour, Nadia Hamdy and the famous Egyptian choreographer, Mahmoud Reda.  Gypsy feels that Middle Eastern dance or "belly dancing" is a wonderful way to exercise and awaken ones feminine creative processes-"The dance speaks to all types of women-all shapes and sizes-all walks of life-and those who embrace this beautiful and sensuous dance form discover a very special and mysterious metamorphosis of both body and soul". (Delilah, 1988)
