Samra  (Iara Kendrick) a native of Brazil, began studying belly dance with Gypsy in 1992.  Since then she has traveled all across the US and around the world, including Turkey and Egypt to study with some of the great masters of Oriental and Folkloric dances. Samra started teaching belly dance classes in Galax, Virginia in 1993 and continued to offer her classes until her move from Fancy Gap to Winston-Salem in May of 2010.  During the last seven years she has traveled around the world teaching workshops and performing various styles of Middle Eastern dances, fusion and fire dancing.  She also teaches workshops and private lessons locally and beyond.

Since moving to Winston Salem, Samra and several other local artists have established the World Artists Mosaic, a collaborative of performing artists dedicated to cultural diversity of which she is president. Samra’s approach to dancing is that everyone can dance regardless of age, body type, physical limitations, or previous experience.  Dancing and performing are often interrelated, but Samra feels that each individual should be allowed to decide at which level they desire to take the art of dance whether it is to the stage or purely for personal enrichment or fitness.

For those students desiring a daytime class opportunity, Samra (Iara Kendrick) will be offering a six-week session (Traditional Belly Dance Basics) on Thursdays, from 11am - 12noon beginning January 12.  Cost is $50.00 for the session or $10.00 per lesson… for more information: Call 775-8052/cell or 924-3940/home or email - samra40@netzero.net.

"BURLESK Revealed"  offered by Selia d'Katzmeow is a six-week burlesque teaser class on Wednesdays, from 7-8pm beginning January 11.  Cost is $50.00 for the session or $10.00 per lesson.  The session will cover the history of Burlesque up through its modern day resurgence.  Basics of fundamental movement, peel and reveal, character development, flow and progression, props and costumes, and confidence building will also be covered. (This course is for all levels...anyone who has ever been interested in learning more about the art of the tease and for those who have never even heard of it…any and all interest levels, performance skill levels, all shapes and sizes.  However, the series will be taught in progression so students will not be accepted into the class after the second week.)  For more information: Call 255-8821 or email - selia_carmichael@yahoo.com

Selia d’Katzmeow is a 15-year veteran of the stage and performs all over the USA with international traveling performance artists, satisfying her primal needs to keep it movin’ and shakin’! She has performed with and shared stages with The Coney Island Roadshow, The Koffin Kats, Big John Bates & The Voodoo Dollz, Pretty Things Peepshow, Armitage Shanks, Princess Farhana, and hundreds of other musical and vaudeville acts. She has been chosen for and participated in several burlesque festivals across the nation and continues to make traveling for inspiration her aspiration.  Selia d'Katzmeow is the creator and producer of the first and longest-running monthly Burlesk Revue in NC. She has performed in three Fringe Festivals, producing two of the shows. She is an experienced and published Model; with work in international trade-shows and magazines. The organizer of Heavy Rebel Weekender's 'Wiggle Room,’ d’Katzmeow continues to promote and produce shows, spanning from burlesque, art openings, music, and large fundraisers.

The building would then be the last building on the right, directly next to the exit. Classes begin promptly, so please be on time. The first 15 minutes will be spent stretching and warming up.
